1. Start with the whole item
Step back and photograph the complete sofa, chair, seat or upholstered area. Include enough of the surroundings to show where it is used. For a sectional or several commercial seats, send more than one wide view if necessary.
The full view helps identify the panel, overall condition and color variation. A close-up by itself can make it hard to tell whether the damaged area is a small armrest or a large seat cushion.
2. Show the damage clearly
Take one close-up straight on and another from a slight angle. Use steady, natural light when possible and avoid filters. Keep the image sharp enough to see the edges of a scratch, crack or worn finish.
Place a ruler beside the area if size is difficult to judge. Do not pull a tear open or remove loose material for a better view. Photograph the existing condition without changing it.
3. Include neighboring material and labels
Show an undamaged nearby section as a color and texture reference. If there is a manufacturer or material label, photograph it too. Furniture can use different materials on different parts, so identify where each photograph was taken.
For a vehicle, include make, model and year. For a boat, RV or aircraft inquiry, include the material information you have and explain exposure or operator requirements. Screens and lighting can shift colors, so a photo estimate does not establish a final color match.
4. Add the information photos cannot show
Include your ZIP code and a short note about the item. These details help us scope both the repair and a possible mobile visit:
- When the damage appeared and whether it is spreading.
- Any cleaners, conditioners, glue or repair kits already used.
- Loose seams, sagging, stiffness or other problems not obvious in a picture.
- Floor, elevator or stairs, parking and building access rules.
- For multiple pieces, the total count and any differences in condition.
